Home Industrial Lighting Types

Types of industrial lighting

In order to effectively perform the tasks set by the employee, the company must, without fail, create optimal working conditions. Their quality will determine the safety and comfort of each workplace, and, of course, labor productivity.

One of the important conditions for organizing work in industrial areas and industrial buildings is industrial lighting. This lighting can be provided by two light sources - natural and artificial - which are used together to complement each other.

Natural industrial lighting

Natural lighting is formed by the light that the sun emits to the areas that need illumination through window openings in the walls or openings in the roof. The disadvantage of such natural sunlight is its impermanence, as it depends on the length of the sunny day, the time of year, and the weather. In addition, it is difficult to distribute such lighting evenly.

Artificial industrial lighting

Artificial lighting is formed by means of artificial fixtures, which are industrial luminaires.

Such luminaires shall provide:

  • optimal light levels, taking into account the specifics of production;
  • the necessary light regime for vision;
  • uniform brightness distribution;
  • proper color reproduction;
  • elimination of glare and harsh shadows;
  • reliability;
  • cost-effectiveness;
  • safety.

Depending on the use of artificial industrial lighting is: main or working, security, duty, emergency, evacuation.

  1. Work lighting is the main lighting and provides the necessary illumination in places where work is performed.
  2. Emergency lighting is used when the main light source is switched off or in the event of an emergency that may cause fire, explosion or poisoning of people, disrupting the necessary rhythm of work. It is powered from a reliable independent source and provides illumination until the malfunction is corrected and the worker is fully operational.
  3. Evacuation lighting is created in places where rapid evacuation may cause danger in their passage.
  4. Security lighting provides visibility of the perimeter of the area to be protected at night.
  5. Duty lighting is required to provide light to industrial premises outside of nighttime hours.
