Dental Care. Who is allowed to whiten

In order to have a beautiful appearance, people began to resort to the help of plastic surgeons and dentists. After all, the latter can give a Hollywood smile to any of their clients. If you want your teeth to be white and beautiful, whitening is the solution. However, when getting the desired effect, it is still worth remembering the undesirable effects (deterioration of tooth enamel) that accompany any procedure. You should also have your mouth cleaned (caries treatment) before you start whitening.

Restoring the whiteness of teeth

The whitening procedure in most of the developed nations has become merely cosmetic. Before proceeding, it is necessary to be examined by a dentist beforehand, as well as to prepare thoroughly.

    Whitening methods:

  1. Chemical. Thanks to special mouth guards filled with a whitening preparation, previously made from impressions of the jaw, and the necessary whiteness of the teeth appears. Wear these mouth guards for several hours a day, so this procedure is quite possible to carry out at night, during sleep. The duration is about 3 weeks.
  2. Laser and light. This procedure is performed by a dentist, the duration varies from a few minutes to 1-1.5 hours. At first, a special gel for whitening is applied, which contains a solution of hydrogen peroxide. In the laser method, the whitening gel is activated with the help of a laser beam, and in the light method - with the help of light from special lamps.
    The method that will be applied to you will be determined by the dentist after he or she thoroughly examines your mouth and performs all necessary treatment measures:

  • tartar removal;
  • the removal of tooth decay;
  • enamel polishing.

Dentists also recommend applying a preparation containing fluoride to the teeth to strengthen the enamel.

After the whitening procedure has been performed, the teeth are more sensitive and vulnerable, and during this period, you should refrain from eating excessively cold or hot foods, drinks, very hard or acidic foods. You should also avoid foods that can stain the extremely susceptible enamel.

What not to do

It is not recommended to do whitening at home on your own, despite the fact that nowadays there is a sufficient number of different products. Such a procedure should be entirely under the supervision of a dentist, because in some cases, chemical burns may occur.

In order not to damage the already fragile and thin enamel of teeth, it is worth refraining from the constant use of toothpastes with abrasive substances, the manufacturers of which guarantee a fast and effective whitening effect.

Contraindications

    Like any health-related procedure, whitening has its contraindications:

  • neuropsychiatric illnesses;
  • under the age of 16;
  • periodontitis or paradontosis;
  • pregnancy;
  • the presence of cancer;
  • existing diabetes mellitus;
  • the presence of braces;
  • People who have fillings on their front teeth or who have had metal-ceramic prosthetics;
  • chipped enamel;
  • allergy to the components of whitening preparations.

Before going for whitening, you should decide whether there is a need for the procedure and whether you are willing to tolerate increased sensitivity and cavity formation.
