Anapa is not without reason called the pearl of the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus. Nothing can compare with its magnificent sandy beaches, the smooth blue sea and the incredible purity of the sky. Interestingly, Anapa is located at the intersection of three climatic zones: mountain, sea and steppe. This is what influenced the fate of Anapa. It has become a wonderful place of rest. Anapa boarding houses are organized in such a way that each of them collects all the riches of this unique place: mineral waters and therapeutic muds.
Rest in Anapa is the right decision. Having come here, the vacationer has every chance during a short vacation not to get caught in the rain. Because in Anapa there are more than 280 sunny days a year. The average air temperature is more than +12C. Those who go to the south to eat fruit, can buy rare grapes and taste great wine. And it is not by chance. Anapa is surrounded by lands with fertile soil, which allows active gardening.
Archaeological excavations, which are constantly conducted on the territory of Anapa, testify to the fact that man settled here as early as the Stone Age. In the 6th century BC on the lands of local tribes, on the shore of Anapa Bay, Greek colonists founded the city of Sindik. A few centuries later this city was annexed to the Bosporus. The local king sent his brother Gorgippus as governor of the city of Sindik, which was soon renamed Gorgippia. The city and the harbor had huge trade connections around the world, and various crafts flourished here.
However, not everything was so smooth in the history of the city. In the middle of the 3rd century AD the city was captured first by the Goths and then by the Huns, who completely destroyed it. Only by the beginning of the 8th century AD in the steppes of the Black Sea coast a powerful state, the Khazar Khaganate, was formed, which united numerous nationalities and tribes that inhabited the area.
It is not known exactly where the name of the city of Anapa came from. Some researchers believe that it comes from the Abkhazian word "anate" - "hand" or "at the river branch", i.e. a city located at the mouth of the river. Others believe that the word has its roots in Circassian language, which means "edge of the table" and consists of two words "ane" - table and "ppe" - end.
But be that as it may, thank God that despite all the wars, destructions, epidemics Anapa survived and pleases us with its untold natural riches.
